Introduction: How Many Tiger Reserves Are There?

As of January 2026, India has 58 official Tiger Reserves.

These reserves are special forest areas protected by the government to keep tigers safe. They are managed under "Project Tiger," which started in 1973. India is now home to more than 75% of all the wild tigers in the world.

The number of reserves has grown recently. In the last two years alone, India added important new reserves like Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla and Madhav National Park.

• 57th: Ratapani Tiger Reserve (Madhya Pradesh) – Notified Dec 2024
